    Site Record:

301.71k by Richard Carter 15th of July 2018. Scored 376.1 as was to a declared goal!!Pre-flight contact:

You MUST leave your name and BHPA number with the Elan Valley Trust before flying. Phone (and answerphone) 01597 810449. Please note that the reciprocal arrangements with other clubs or with the WFFF do not cover this site.

    Description:

A lovely SW ridge with excellent XC potential. The westerly bowl is also flown. This site is prone to being blown out and can be reached by the sea-breeze.

    Access & parking:

Heading for Rhaeadr on the Aberystwyth-Rhaeadr mountain road, pass a turning for the Elan Valley lakes (this road leads to the bottom landing), go uphill for 300 yards and turn left up a steep gated track. Park on left of track and carry up the slope on the east side of the take-off. No vehicles to be taken up to take-off.

    Takeoff:

Top landing is OK on a large flat area 200 yards north of take-off.

    Bottom landing:

The large field to the west of the lake. This field is boggy at the north end. Hang gliders should keep away from the lake since the field slopes away towards it at the east side. Don't land in any boggy areas since these can contain rare orchids. Also keep clear of bracken covered areas because they are used by some birds for nesting sites.

    Restrictions & notes:

This site is strictly MEMBERS ONLY. No more than 10 pilots in the air at any one time. Nearest public telephone is in Rhaeadr, 4 miles east. Note: this is a disjointed ridge of 400 feet and is likely to be rough if the wind is off to the south. Westerly bowl can also be flown.
